In honor of International Pet Day, Taipei Metro is launching four "Dog-Friendly Trains" on April 12, 2025, at 1 PM. These special trains will depart from Xiangshan and Tamsui stations on the Red Line, offering a total of 16 round trips throughout the day. No prior registration is required for passengers to board these trains with their dogs.
Key Features of the Dog-Friendly Trains
- Accessibility: Dogs can ride without cages once on board, provided they are secured with a harness and leash. However, owners must keep their dogs in pet carriers or strollers when entering station areas to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
- Frequency and Route: The trains will run at 45-minute intervals, stopping at all stations along the Red Line. The last departures are scheduled from Xiangshan at 5:14 PM and Tamsui at 5:05 PM.
- Fare Structure: The fare policy follows Taipei Metro's existing rules for pet strollers. Human passengers pay standard fares based on distance traveled. Small and medium-sized pet carriers require no additional ticket, while large carriers need an NT$80 single-trip ticket, valid for one pet per passenger.
- Boarding: Passengers with pets must board through the first or last carriages to minimize disruptions to other commuters.
Considerations for Cats
While the focus is on dogs, cat owners can still bring their pets on board, but they must remain securely contained in carriers throughout the journey, adhering to general pet travel regulations.
Health and Safety Measures
To ensure public health and safety, all pets must have completed mandatory registration, received up-to-date vaccinations (including rabies), and undergone flea prevention treatments. Veterinary professionals, security personnel, and cleaning staff will be onboard to assist with any pet-related situations.
Additional Services
These dog-friendly trains are an additional service and do not disrupt the regular schedule. All passengers, including those without pets, are welcome to ride these trains, though they may encounter canine companions during their journey.
