Small animals are incredibly soothing and their silly antics often leave us in stitches. However, if there's any sign of them being mistreated, it can spark widespread outrage. Recently, a photo of a dog appearing to be "decapitated" on the street went viral online, attracting over 50,000 views. The owner faced criticism and quickly came forward to explain the situation.
According to Newsweek, the photo of the dog's head on the ground caused a stir on the American forum Reddit. Nathan Sievers from Baltimore uploaded the picture with the caption, "My dog resting his head on the curb, looks like he’s been decapitated." The dog, a husky and golden retriever mix named Bleuregard Q. Kazoo, has golden fur and blue eyes. In the photo, the dog's head is calmly placed on the ground, with a person wearing a green shirt sitting nearby. Surprisingly, there is no blood, and the dog's eyes appear lively.
Many viewers were puzzled, unable to figure out where the dog's body was. Some even suspected animal abuse. Nathan explained that Bleuregard was lying on a slope and had rested his head on a raised concrete step. From the camera angle, the brain is tricked into thinking the step and the slope behind it are the same level, creating the illusion of the dog's head being detached. Nathan didn't expect the photo to cause such a commotion and later posted a full-body photo of Bleuregard to reassure everyone.
