A mixed-breed dog spent five long years in a shelter, watching over 1,500 companions get adopted while she remained unchosen. Dubbed the "most unwanted dog in the country" due to her appearance, Mia's story finally took a turn for the better when a kind-hearted individual traveled over 300 kilometers to give her a forever home.
According to reports, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) rescued Mia when she was just nine days old, along with her mother, and placed her at the Southridge Animal Centre. Despite puppies typically being popular, Mia spent the next five years witnessing the adoption of over 1,500 companions while she remained overlooked, largely due to her appearance being deemed unattractive.
Staff at the Southridge Animal Centre celebrated Mia's fifth birthday, hoping it would be her last in the shelter. Months later, this wish came true. Mia's new owner, Chris Greenwell, traveled from 300 kilometers away to the shelter and fell in love with Mia at first sight, deciding to take her home.
Greenwell noted that Mia adapted to her new life remarkably well, enjoying making new friends, both human and canine. "I am surprised by Mia's performance; she has completely changed my life," he said. Now, Mia is making up for lost time in her new home, enjoying a new life with her favorite sofa and armchair, going on hikes, exploring rivers and waterfalls, and even disrupting her owner's meetings. Greenwell added that Mia has won over everyone's hearts, even those who aren't fond of dogs, saying, "She is man's best friend."
