In a surprising incident in Taichung, Taiwan, a small parrot was found perched on the windshield of a car, seemingly hitching a ride. The driver, startled by the unexpected passenger, sought assistance from a nearby traffic officer, Lee Jie-kuan. However, the parrot unexpectedly became attached to Officer Lee, leading him to take it back to the police station. Here's the full story:
The Unexpected Hitchhiker
On the morning of the 18th, Officer Lee Jie-kuan was directing traffic at the intersection of Section 6, Huanzhong East Road, and Section 2, Xinren Road, in the Dali District. A car suddenly stopped, and the driver asked for help. The reason was a small parrot that had landed on the windshield, as if it were hitching a ride. The driver, in a hurry to get to work, handed the parrot over to Officer Lee for assistance.
An Unlikely Bond
Officer Lee was concerned that the parrot might fly away, so he quickly asked a colleague to bring a patrol car to transport it back to the station. Surprisingly, the parrot refused to leave Officer Lee's side. Lee speculated that this might be because he has experience with pets, specifically hamsters, which somehow made the parrot feel comfortable around him. Together, they rode back to the police station in the patrol car.
Reuniting with the Owner
After confirming the parrot was unharmed, Officer Lee discovered a phone number attached to its leg ring. He immediately contacted the owner, a Mr. Jin, who sells charcoal-grilled golden chicken at the In Xin Night Market in the Dali District. Mr. Jin was deeply moved and grateful to see his parrot well cared for by the police. He even shared his delicious charcoal-grilled chicken with the officers.
A Commendable Act
The head of the Wufeng Police Bureau, Liao Zhi-ming, praised the officers for their kindness and efficiency in reuniting the parrot with its owner. He emphasized the importance of microchipping pets or leaving contact information on them to prevent such incidents. Additionally, he encouraged the public to seek help from the Taichung City Animal Protection and Disease Control Center if they find lost pets.
