Bernese Mountain Dog's Stomach Swells and Vomits Violently! Veterinarians See X-ray: "Abdomen Turns into a Laundry Basket"

A shocking case in California has highlighted the dangers of pets ingesting foreign objects. Luna, a 7-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog, was rushed to the Corona Animal Emergency Center after her family noticed she was vomiting and had a distended abdomen. What veterinarians found was astonishing: Luna's stomach was filled with a variety of items, resembling a laundry basket.

Emergency Surgery Reveals Jaw-Dropping Discovery

During emergency surgery, veterinarians discovered a staggering 44 items in Luna's stomach and intestines. The list included 24 socks, a hair scrunchie, two hair ties, a shoe insert, a small onesie that had caused an intestinal obstruction, and multiple pieces of cloth. The surgery involved both a gastrotomy to clear her stomach and an enterotomy to remove the onesie from her intestines.

X-rays taken before the surgery showed a significant buildup in Luna's stomach and intestines, which was blocked by the numerous items she had consumed. The veterinary team was amazed by the sheer quantity of objects found, which filled a table after being removed.

Luna's Recovery and the Importance of Pet Care

Fortunately, Luna survived the surgery and is now recovering at home. Her case serves as a cautionary tale for pet owners, emphasizing the importance of monitoring their pets' behavior and seeking immediate veterinary care if they suspect ingestion of foreign objects. Symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy, or a firm abdomen should not be ignored.

The Corona Animal Emergency Center used Luna's story to remind pet owners to trust their instincts and act quickly if they notice unusual behavior in their pets. Prevention is key, but prompt action can save lives in emergencies.
