Netizens Amazed by Mysterious Footage: "Capybara Walking on Two Legs"? Zoo Adds Michael Jackson's Moonwalk Music!

The capybara, also known as the "hundred-pound rat" or "capybara", is the world's largest rodent. It is a semi-aquatic herbivore that has become a popular attraction in many zoos and even farms. Despite being known as a quadruped, a recent video from the Zoological Wildlife Foundation in Miami, Florida, captured what appeared to be a capybara walking on two legs, astonishing viewers. The video, set to Michael Jackson's "Thriller", gave the illusion of the capybara gliding like a dancer.

However, the zoo explained that the illusion was due to light refraction, making it seem as though the capybara was walking on two legs in the water. The capybara in question, named Eve, is a female born just before Christmas in 2023 and is thriving under the care of the foundation.

About Capybaras

Capybaras are closely related to guinea pigs and rock cavies, with adults typically weighing between 35 and 65 kg (77 to 143 pounds). They are native to South America and are known for their semi-aquatic lifestyle, often living near bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, and swamps. These rodents are excellent swimmers, with webbed feet and eyes, nostrils, and ears positioned on top of their heads, allowing them to stay submerged for extended periods.

Capybaras are highly social animals, living in groups of up to 100 individuals, though they usually form smaller groups of 10 to 20. They are herbivores, feeding primarily on grasses and aquatic plants. Their unique digestive system involves eating their own feces to extract more nutrients, a behavior known as autocoprophagy.

Despite their size, capybaras face threats from predators like jaguars, pumas, and caimans. They are also vulnerable to habitat loss due to deforestation and agricultural expansion.
