Kittens have weak constitutions and are prone to illness. The New Taipei Zhonghe Animal Home in Taiwan took in a black kitten, about 2 to 3 months old, suffering from a severe feline herpesvirus infection that caused adhesion of the conjunctiva of the right eyelid. After the kitten grew to 6 months old, surgery was arranged. The black cat, named "Ji Ji," recovered successfully, with the appearance and vision of its right eye becoming closer to normal. It was successfully adopted recently.
When "Ji Ji" was sent to the Zhonghe Animal Home, it had severe feline herpesvirus, which caused upper respiratory symptoms such as sneezing and eye and nose secretions, as well as conjunctivitis and adhesion of the conjunctiva of the eyelid in the right eye due to the viral infection. At that time, the animal shelter veterinarian immediately gave oral medication and antiviral eye ointment for treatment. Animal protection officer Qiu Lifang said that similar kittens, when sent to the animal shelter, often cannot open their eyes due to the severity of their condition and can only rely on patient drug treatment and careful care to gradually alleviate the symptoms. Despite the treatment, the kitten's right eye could only be opened through a small hole due to conjunctival adhesion.
Veterinarian Huang Jiting said that because the immune system of kittens is not yet mature, their resistance to the herpesvirus is poor, and the virus is very easy to spread and spread among kittens. In addition to possible loss of appetite and fever, the most common manifestations of kittens infected with herpesvirus are sneezing and eye and nose secretions. The virus can also cause eye diseases, especially conjunctivitis, which in severe cases can cause adhesion of the conjunctiva and cornea, further damaging vision.
After "Ji Ji" grew to 6 months old, with the assistance of practicing ophthalmologist Zhang Youan, special microscopic ophthalmic instruments were used to perform excision and plastic surgery of the adhesion of the conjunctiva of the right eyelid. Two weeks after the operation, with careful care, the black cat's wound healed smoothly, and the right eye could be fully opened, with its appearance and vision close to normal. After rebirth, this black cat was successfully adopted by a loving owner and officially embarked on a happy new life.
