Two female students from Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan have taken the initiative to design adorable scarves for pets in various sizes. These handmade scarves not only provide warmth but also aim to bring a festive spirit to the animals during the holiday season.
As a cold front approaches, many people are donating warm clothing materials to animal shelters. With Christmas around the corner, these students hope their creations will help shelter pets feel the festive atmosphere.
The Animal Protection Office has encouraged the public to donate unused towels and other clothing items to help keep shelter animals warm. Huang and Lin, students from the Textile and Apparel Design program, recently volunteered at the Banqiao Animal Shelter. They noticed that many dogs were wearing red collars, which seemed to make them more accepting of being leashed for walks, enhancing their social interactions with both people and other animals.
With Christmas approaching, the two students decided to create unique, handwoven scarves as gifts for the dogs and cats at the shelter. The Animal Protection Office praised their craftsmanship, noting that the colorful and cute designs of the scarves are not only warm but also do not irritate the animals’ fur. The scarves are particularly charming on smaller dogs and add a lively touch to cats as well.
According to Xu Aiming, the shelter director, while pets have fur for warmth, young or sick animals are still susceptible to cold weather. During cold spells, it is crucial to implement measures to keep them warm. Shelter staff regularly monitor the health of the animals and provide them with blankets, clothing, heating lamps, and space heaters for extra warmth.
The office also calls on the community to show compassion by donating any unused towels, blankets, or sheets they may have at home. These items can significantly aid in keeping rescued animals warm during winter.
