Smith, holding his beloved cat Gandalf for a photo, reflects on the passage of time. The difference now is that Smith has grown from a young boy into an adult, while Gandalf has aged significantly. A cat lover abroad discovered a photo taken 20 years ago, just after Gandalf arrived at his home. On this poignant day, he decided to recreate that first picture with his feline companion, evoking strong emotions among many online viewers.
Smith revealed that Gandalf became part of the family around 2003 when he was just nine years old. He never imagined that this cat would become his entire world. Smith reminisced about how shortly after Gandalf joined the family, during a time when mobile phone cameras were not ubiquitous, his parents captured their first photo together. In that image, Smith is wearing an orange shirt while Gandalf gazes coolly at the camera like a regal feline.
Over the past 20 years, Gandalf has always been by Smith's side through various teenage troubles and significant life decisions after entering adulthood. "Gandalf has always been there," Smith said. However, as Gandalf aged, his mobility noticeably declined in the final years, as if he sensed that his time was limited and chose to spend more moments beside Smith.
Sadly, after 20 years on Earth, Gandalf had to return to the cat kingdom. Before bidding farewell to his dear friend, Smith decided to wear clothes of the same color as he did two decades ago and hold Gandalf once more to capture their final commemorative photo together. "A cat living to 20 years is already quite a long life; this truly showcases the long journey we've shared," Smith expressed.
Putting my childhood cat to sleep today, and did my best to recreate a 20 year old picture. I will always love you Gandalf.
