A woman with the surname Zhang expressed that her parrot, "A Jiu," has been part of the family for over ten years, creating a deep emotional bond. When "A Jiu" went missing, she was frantic and searched the neighborhood for a long time, but fortunately, the bird was successfully found.
On duty yesterday at the An-Nan Police Station in Tainan City, Officer Huang Guanlin encountered a wandering monk parakeet that flew into the station. The parakeet seemed lost and landed on the officer's shoulder, as if asking for help to contact its owner. Huang bought sunflower seeds out of his own pocket to feed the bird and discovered the owner's phone number on its leg band. He immediately contacted Zhang to come and retrieve her pet.
According to reports, Zhang discovered on the afternoon of January 21 that "A Jiu" had suddenly flown out of her home in the vicinity of Section 3, Benyuan Street, An-Nan District. Despite searching with her family nearby, they could not find the bird until they received a call from the police station, learning that "A Jiu" had flown there seeking assistance.
Officer Huang found the contact number on the parakeet's leg band and successfully notified Zhang’s family. While waiting for them to arrive at the station, he even purchased more sunflower seeds to ensure "A Jiu" had a good meal. Upon receiving the news, Zhang rushed to the station and expressed her gratitude to the officers for helping her find her beloved pet.
She reiterated that "A Jiu" has been with her for over ten years and feels like family; thus, she was extremely anxious during its absence. Thankfully, they were reunited.
The Tainan City Police Department urges pet owners to have microchips implanted in cats and dogs for better tracking and management. For bird owners, using leg bands can help prevent pets from getting lost or causing disturbances.
