Kitten Rescued from Car Engine in Taichung, Taiwan

A heartwarming rescue took place in the Fengyuan District of Taichung City, Taiwan, after a concerned citizen reported hearing strange noises coming from a parked car, suspecting a stray cat might be trapped inside. The police were called for assistance, and Officer Hong Weizhi came up with an innovative plan to lure the kitten out using a favorite snack of the police station's cat, "Wu Dunmei".

On the evening of February 27, Officer Hong and Sergeant Wan Yuzhong from the Wengzi Police Station received a report about a car parked near the Hulu Dun Cultural Center, where meowing sounds had been heard for some time. The caller had left a note on the windshield to alert the car owner, but still requested police assistance. After contacting the female car owner, she arrived at the scene and helped open the engine hood. Despite hearing continuous meows, the officers and the owner couldn't locate the cat initially.

Officer Hong then had an idea to use the meat paste that "Wu Dunmei", the police station's cat, loved to eat. To everyone's surprise, a little kitten slowly emerged from the engine compartment, following the scent of the meat paste. The car owner, seeing the kitten's pitiful state, decided to take it to a veterinary clinic for a check-up and to scan for a microchip. After confirming there was no owner, she decided to adopt the kitten, providing it with a warm home.

The police station's cat, "Wu Dunmei", is a tiger-striped kitten that was found by locals and adopted by the station. It has become popular online for helping with crime prevention campaigns. The head of the Fengyuan Police Station, Lin Dawei, reminded the public that wild animals sometimes hide under cars or in engine compartments to avoid rain or cold. He suggested that people develop the habit of checking under their vehicles before driving and gently tapping on the engine hood to encourage any animals to leave, avoiding accidents. If assistance is needed, people can contact animal protection units.
