Parth Kumar and his family visited the chain home decor store IKEA to purchase household items, but they unexpectedly found a new home for a little creature. While exploring the potted plant section, Parth's sister discovered a frog nestled within one of the pots, initially mistaking it for a decorative toy.
Upon closer inspection, Parth realized that the frog was alive and breathing. He intended to take the frog home to release it into the wild, but soon discovered that this plan was not feasible. The Kumar family's shopping list already included potted plants. When they found the small creature, they decided to buy the pot with the frog, concerned that it wouldn't survive long in the store.
"At first, I thought about taking it to a nearby pond to release it, but after researching, I found out that it's an invasive species known as the Cuban tree frog. Releasing it randomly could harm our local ecosystem," Parth explained.
Since releasing the frog was not an option, Parth decided to adopt this tree frog that seemed destined for their family. "I want to name him 'Slippy,' and I will take good care of him," he said. Although Slippy's journey began unexpectedly at IKEA, fortunately, his health was not compromised.
Parth created a temporary home for Slippy using a jar and even included the original plant pot where they found him. He plans to purchase a larger glass tank in the future to provide Slippy with a more suitable habitat. This serendipitous encounter has given Slippy a second chance at life and a new belonging.
Parth initially had no plans to keep a pet but expressed his fondness for frogs and looks forward to having Slippy as a companion. "If you were in my position, would you consider buying that potted plant with the frog?"
