It can be quite troublesome when important items like keys or phones fall into a drain, often requiring police assistance if one cannot retrieve them. Recently, in Biguaçu, Santa Catarina, Brazil, the local fire department received reports of an animal trapped in a storm drain. Surprisingly, it was not a common pet like a cat or dog, but a rare and large creature rarely seen on the streets!
The firefighters were alerted to a rescue operation when passersby noticed a pair of eyes peering out from beneath a storm drain cover. Upon investigation, they discovered that the animal was not an ordinary mouse but the largest rodent species in the world!
Upon arrival, the Biguaçu firefighters realized that lifting the heavy metal drain cover by hand would be impossible. They opted to use a chainsaw to cut through the surrounding concrete before two team members lifted the cover. Finally, everyone was able to see the adorable face of a capybara!
After being freed from the storm drain, the capybara initially struggled to climb out but was assisted by the firefighters. Fortunately, once out, it appeared healthy and lively, quickly moving away from the crowd back to its natural habitat.
Capybaras are native to Brazil; however, no one knows how this particular capybara ended up trapped in the drain. This incident highlights the importance of urban wildlife care and community involvement in animal rescue efforts.
