Losing a pet is always heartbreaking, and sometimes, even when they're found, joy isn't the first emotion. A pet owner in China experienced this firsthand. This netizen had a purple land crab as a pet, which suddenly went missing three years ago.
Recently, the owner's computer broke down. Upon opening the computer case, they were shocked to find the crab inside. However, a closer inspection revealed unfortunate news. The owner shared the discovery on the social media platform Xiaohongshu, posting both good and bad news. The good news: the crab that had mysteriously disappeared three years prior had been found! The bad news: it was mummified.
After careful examination, the owner realized there was a hole in the computer case that was easy to enter but difficult to exit. Living in Beijing, with its dry climate and the high operating temperature of the computer, the crab had dried out. The owner noted that the crab didn't emit any odor as a specimen, which is why it wasn't discovered until the computer malfunctioned three years later.
Subsequently, the owner pieced the crab back together and decided to memorialize the pet in a unique way: "Three years, you've suffered. Come out and bask in the sun!"
Stories of pets going missing in homes are common. Many netizens shared similar experiences: "My snake went missing for a year, and I found it in the closet while moving," "(My spider) went missing for a month and I found it in my bedding; it's a miracle it wasn't crushed," "Before, my bearded dragon escaped, and after searching the house all afternoon, we found it sleeping on the horizontal bar of a chair," "I remember when my child was young, we had a turtle. We returned to our hometown for 3 days, and when we came back, the turtle was gone. We searched for a long time and found that it had climbed out and run under the sofa, but luckily it hadn't died."
