A Japanese YouTuber, known as "homosapi", has sparked controversy by cooking and eating a broth made from dozens of Portuguese man o' war jellyfish. The man-of-war is renowned for its potent neurotoxin, capable of causing severe stings that can lead to shock or even death. Despite the risks, homosapi decided to test whether these dangerous creatures could be consumed safely.

According to reports from Japanese media outlet "modlepress", homosapi caught over a dozen man-of-wars at the beach with the intention of boiling them into a soup. During the capture process, he was stung but remained unfazed. He claimed that many jellyfish toxins are protein-based and can lose their potency when heated in water around 50°C for 20 to 30 minutes.
Homosapi first washed the captured man-o-wars with clean water before boiling them in a pot filled with water. As they cooked, they expanded and eventually dissolved completely into the hot water. He described the aroma of the broth as similar to that found near sea lion exhibits at aquariums but noted that it tasted very diluted compared to scallop consommé.
After cooking, he added alcohol, soy sauce, sugar, and other seasonings to enhance the flavor. Homosapi mentioned that while regular jellyfish have a texture akin to seaweed skin (sea whip), these had more of a shellfish-like consistency.
The entire process was conducted under expert supervision who confirmed that heating would neutralize protein toxins within an hour. After consuming his unusual dish without any adverse effects on his body afterward.
Criticism and Safety Concerns
This daring stunt has ignited heated discussions online despite homosapi's warnings against imitation due to safety concerns raised by marine life experts like Shuhei Ikeda from Kamo Aquarium in Tsuruoka City.
Ikeda emphasized that even if all venomous parts are removed completely during cooking there remains risk because improper heat application might not fully deactivate protein toxins present within these organisms Additionally inhalation risks exist since fumes released during preparation contain harmful substances which could cause serious allergic reactions respiratory issues among other health problems Thus consumption should be strongly discouraged regardless how adventurous one may feel about trying such dishes out themselves!
