Generally, pet dogs will bark to alert their owners of danger and may even rush to protect them. However, it's surprising to learn that a slow-moving turtle can also come to its owner's defense. In China, a girl who keeps a turtle as a pet was awoken in the middle of the night by the sound of her turtle tapping on its glass enclosure. Upon turning on the light, she was shocked to discover a 2-meter-long snake that had entered her room through the window and climbed onto her desk.
According to reports from Bai Lu Video, a student named Tian in Zunyi, Guizhou Province, was sleeping when she was awakened by her pet turtle's unusual behavior. She quickly called for her father's help, and he used a clothes rack to chase the snake out of the house. Tian expressed gratitude for her turtle, stating that if it hadn't alerted her, she might have been bitten by the snake.
After Tian shared the video online, netizens were amazed, commenting, "Turtle protects its master," "Snakes can really climb walls? That's terrifying," and "Turtle: Wake up, your mousepad has come to life." Some turtle enthusiasts recognized the turtle as a "snake-eating turtle", actually a Yellow-Margined Box Turtle, which doesn't eat snakes but has a reputation due to its ability to close its plastron. These turtles primarily eat flowers, leaves, fruits, snails, earthworms, and slugs.
It remains unclear whether the turtle was truly protecting its owner or simply hungry and disturbed by the snake. Nonetheless, this incident highlights the unexpected ways pets can alert us to potential dangers.
