At 09:30, upon entering the office, we are greeted by adorable smiling faces. The golden retrievers in the office are those that require special care due to illness. Volunteers spend their breaks here, and it's a great opportunity to interact with the dogs. Despite the challenging conditions, including the presence of blind, epileptic, or paralyzed dogs, the atmosphere remains uplifting.
The founder, Jade, works tirelessly on paperwork and communications, including international adoptions. It's truly remarkable to see such dedication, which is not something just anyone can sustain.
Main Tasks for Volunteers
The primary tasks for volunteers include cleaning dog houses and the courtyard. This involves picking up waste, washing the area with water, and using a scraper to dry it to prevent excessive moisture. Initially, some volunteers might find this daunting, especially if they are accustomed to smaller dogs. However, the motivation comes from knowing that the work benefits the dogs.
Feeding Time
At 11:00, it's feeding time. Each meal is carefully prepared by Jade, tailored to each dog's health needs. The meals may include cooked meat or boiled eggs, along with health supplements. It's impressive how Jade remembers the specific needs of each dog, even with a fluctuating population of around 80 to 100 dogs.
To avoid conflicts during feeding, dogs are secured in their kennels or outdoor areas. Volunteers help monitor which dogs have leftover food or digestive issues and report back to Jade for further observation.
Afternoon Activities
After lunch, volunteers engage in washing and blow-drying the dogs. This is the most physically demanding part of the day, as golden retrievers have thick coats that require a lot of effort to clean. Even those who have experience with these dogs often find it challenging.
Model Wang Xin Tian is also a volunteer and often helps with washing and playing with the dogs. Her dedication is truly admirable.
Caring for Special Needs Dogs
There is a special care unit for dogs diagnosed with terminal illnesses like cancer or kidney failure. These dogs receive constant care and attention, and despite their condition, they are able to enjoy their remaining time playing in the yard.

Important Notes
The volunteer work can be quite strenuous; please do not come with a mindset of just having fun. Volunteers must be at least 20 years old; participation from minors (under 20) or those who have not filled out registration forms is not accepted. No service hour certification will be provided.
Please do not bring your own pets to avoid potential conflicts or injuries from initial interactions between dogs. This environment is not suitable for individuals who are easily frightened, nervous, or overly excited, as yelling can cause dogs to become more agitated and jump on people, leading to accidents or injuries.
There is a specific area in the dog house with a golden retriever that is extremely unfriendly and aggressive. Please do not enter any dog house without staff permission to avoid injury. The association will not be responsible for injuries incurred from unauthorized entry; please act responsibly.
Feeding snacks inside the dog houses is strictly prohibited to prevent fights among dogs over food.
