The Cat of Onomichi Art Museum Breaks Through the Guard's Line for the First Time in 7 Years! A Heartwarming Story Behind It?!

Recently, the "Onomichi City Museum Cat" has once again caught the media's attention for a rather simple reason: the cat named "Ken-chan" has finally breached the defenses of the security guard and made his way into the museum! We previously introduced Ken-chan, who has a rather interesting story. This isn't Ken-chan's first successful entry into the museum, but it is his first time overcoming the defenses of his favorite security guard.

Even the Onomichi City Museum hurried to commemorate this victory after seven long years with an official post on X (formerly Twitter). Ken-chan's story began in 2017. Contrary to being a stray, Ken-chan is actually a cat cared for by a nearby restaurant. However, for some unknown reason, he has been very determined to enter the exhibition hall. At that time, the museum was hosting a "Cat Mania Exhibition," and many people laughed at how eager Ken-chan seemed to rush inside, joking that he must be a cat wanting to see an art exhibit.

The security guard at that time was Mr. Maehara, and whenever Ken-chan saw him, he would particularly try to dash into the museum. In fact, in 2020, Asahi Shimbun reported that "Ken-chan almost only attempts to invade the museum when Mr. Maehara is on duty!" Soon enough, everyone realized that Ken-chan might not actually want to go inside; he just wanted to play with his favorite security guard! It became clear that as long as Mr. Maehara was not on duty, Ken-chan showed little interest in entering and would often sit at the entrance disinterestedly.

However, Mr. Maehara only worked during special exhibitions. Perhaps feeling lonely, starting in 2022, Ken-chan began forcefully breaching the museum's barriers even when Mr. Maehara wasn't around, and ordinary staff members found it nearly impossible to stop him (laughs). Initially, it seemed that Ken-chan's story would end there, but unexpectedly, the tale of Mr. Maehara and Ken-chan continued quietly.

Mr. Maehara still comes to work during special exhibitions, and Ken-chan continues to make his presence known whenever Mr. Maehara is around (laughs). However, what's different now is that Ken-chan has grown increasingly fond of cuddling up to Mr. Maehara. Instead of always trying to dash into the museum like before, it seems that later versions of Ken-chan enjoy being blocked by Mr. Maehara and then receiving affectionate pats from him.

Over these years, Ken-chan's presence has turned into a charming display of "coming over when Mr. Maehara is on duty but not really wanting to enter the museum; he just wants Mr. Maehara to keep him company." This behavior is exceptionally adorable.

This is what Ken-chan looked like in 2023. However, perhaps due to this prolonged display of affection from Ken-chan, Mr. Maehara inadvertently lowered his guard against him (?). On April 18th, Ken-chan surprisingly took advantage of a moment when Mr. Maehara was petting his back and dashed into the museum! Although the Onomichi City Museum humorously stated that "it's time to raise the alert level," such a cute and heartwarming story surely brings joy to everyone involved!
