Operating a YouTube channel can be seen as a way to document life, allowing creators to edit and upload videos of their interests. However, the number of views is often secondary. A Japanese fishing YouTuber known as "My slow life with the ocean" (@BOKU_to_UMI) has been chronicling his sea fishing experiences on his channel. Despite consistently low view counts, one recent video of him rescuing a kitten has surprisingly surpassed one million views!
The cat rescue video currently boasts 1.04 million views, while his previous fishing videos averaged only a few thousand views each. During a typical fishing trip, the YouTuber heard the sound of a cat meowing and discovered a small kitten swimming in the sea. He quickly switched from fishing to rescuing mode, managing to bring the kitten ashore.
Once pulled from the water, the kitten showed little resistance, possibly due to being cold or exhausted from swimming. Its limbs appeared somewhat stiff. The YouTuber promptly dried off the soaked kitten with a towel and wrapped it up warmly. After taking it home, he patiently bathed the kitten, which seemed to brighten up after being cleaned.
This was reportedly his first time rescuing a cat. Upon inspection, there were no signs of serious health issues or fleas on the kitten. Due to their serendipitous meeting by the sea, he named the cat "Umi-chan", meaning "sea". This unexpected rescue has transformed his channel from having just a few hundred subscribers in October to over 70,000 today.
However, some viewers have questioned the authenticity of this incident, recalling past instances where cats were used to gain views online. Nevertheless, subsequent uploads showing the kitten's well-being confirm that it is indeed being cared for properly. The channel has now pivoted into a pet account due to this unexpected addition.
With a cat now in the picture, it's clear that humans can be quite simple in their affections!
