"Stray" Released: Captivating Cat Lovers Worldwide, Even Real Cats Are Curious

Developed by the French independent team BlueTwelve, the third-person adventure game Stray, featuring a cat as its protagonist, has officially launched on multiple platforms. As expected, it quickly captured the hearts of cat lovers worldwide, including those in Japan. Interestingly, even real cats seem to be fascinated by Stray. In the game, players take on the role of a stray cat that accidentally enters a city with a strong cyberpunk style, devoid of humans but filled with robots. The player must navigate this desolate city alongside a small drone, B-12, to solve puzzles and escape.

Many fans of the game are drawn to the experience of controlling a cat and watching it navigate through the city. This fascination was evident even before the game's release, and it has only grown stronger on social media platforms like Twitter. What's remarkable is that Stray extensively uses real cat sounds and motion capture, leading many players to share videos of their cats reacting to the game. These reactions include staring intently at the screen, rubbing against it, and responding to the cat sounds in the game.

While Stray is a game and thus includes elements like "death", BlueTwelve has humorously included a "died nine times" achievement, likely a nod to the myth of cats having nine lives.

Behind the Scenes: Real Cats Inspiring Stray

The protagonist in Stray was inspired by real cats, including Murtaugh, a stray cat found under a car in Montpellier, France, and Oscar, a Sphynx cat that helped the team with animation. Murtaugh, nicknamed "The Boss", was a significant inspiration for the cat's appearance, while Oscar's movements were studied to create realistic feline animations in the game.
